The motto on Berry Hill's city seal is "Home - Commerce - Industry". When the city was incorporated in 1950, it was a small residential suburb of Nashville, with a commercial strip along Franklin Pike (now 8th Avenue South) and a number of small industrial businesses. In the 1970s most of the city was rezoned to allow commercial businesses. Forty years later, with the exception of our small residential district along Rosedale Avenue, businesses and residences coexist on almost every street in Berry Hill. Today, the majority of Berry Hill residents live in multifamily or townhome developments on or near 8th Avenue South, the city's original commercial district, and several of the city's original residential streets are almost entirely lined with small businesses.
